This is the season for giving(and shivering) and receiving... so while we are busy shopping(like all good Singaporeans) and feasting, let's spend a couple of minutes to be thankful for what we have.
For ME
for DW (keeping me firmly grounded as a teacher and a person)
for my family(providing me love and support)
for my friends(ditto on the love and support and smiles)
for my teachers(without them, this Christmas would have sucked bad)
for my students(keeping me inspired)
for inner peace(no unreasonable stress and anxiety)
for outer peace(no war, no riots, no real elections...)
for all the material comforts(living like 'a king without a country')
Thanks to HIM for making it all possible!
So if you are complaining about the weather, or the presents(or lack thereof) or the food(no turkey for me this year...) or the end of the holidays, just spare a thought for everyone else around you who doesn't have the time to complain because they don't know if they will make it to the next week.
They released the NIE exams' results today in the afternoon. So I was not surprised when my phone had several SMSes from schoolmates with news of the results.
Then I experienced some minor anxiety about whether I should check my results, I think in the deepest part of my mind, there is a part of me that does not want to know if my hard work this semester has paid off or if I have been idling the whole time.
Of course, after 5 minutes, my sensible self took control and I logged on to face the music.
I think a wise man once said that the scariest type of fear is the self-imagined one. The human mind is capable of thinking up one hundred and one scenarios that may or may not be plausible in the first place. As Charlie Brown would say, "Augh!"
Turns out that the results are not that bad. On the positive end, I cleared all my subjects. On the negative end, I didn't do as well on some subjects as I wished but overall it's better than nothing, I guess. As teachers, we have a tendency to stress on process rather than results. It's really hard to practise what you preach. Bleah!
Ok, to review the events of the past few days...
Monday- popped into school (really a ghost town in Dec) to pick up notes for next term and had a late lunch with DW in town. Ended up watching the Golden Compass and felt a bit cheated when the show ended(I didn't know it was a trilogy). I guess the movie studio people need to make money! Went home and had some noodles and hot dogs for dinner.
Tuesday-slow morning, just basically lazed around a bit. Then DW and I met Kirk and Xinlei for a show at GV Marina. We watched 投名状 and it was a bloody affair. I read later on that the director's idea was to convey the ugly side of war and I think in that respect he was successful. I won't put in any spoilers in case anyone wants to catch the flick. I will also want to catch Get Smart and probably I Am Legend. After the show, we went Dian Xiao Er for dinner and the after dinner plan was to pop in to 爱琴海 to listen to some music. It was my second time there and I had a good time listening to the performance and the jokes.
Wednesday-just spent the whole day perfecting my couch potato impression... plus check results lor!
Feeling a little bit guilty about not posting for some time, so going to put in a double post today!
After coming back from OBS, DW and I caught HERO at GV Tiong Bahru. Quite a quirky show but a bit draggy at certain bits. Overall I liked it.
On top of that, went to ktv a couple of times as well(good for destressing) and so I'm going include a song (that I watched on TV and liked) which I would like to master...
曹格-背叛
I actually set a target this holidays that I'm going to learn how to play 5 of my favourite songs on guitar. Wish me luck!
After going through an unforgettable experience last week at Outward Bound School, I guess it's only right that I put down a few heartfelt words as a form of reflection.
Going through the course was amazing, not only because I managed to make 28 new friends, but I had a chance to experience how far I was willing to push myself in spite of overwhelming odds and conditions.
WASHINGTON ROCKS!
As I don't want to spoil the fun for others who may be attending the future Adaptability and Resilience courses at OBS, I won't go into much detail about what happened. Whether it was the weather (I have become accustomed to being drenched and shivering) or the food(the many methods of cooking maggi mee) or the various expeditions(row and row and row, walk and walk and walk), everything was bearable because I was never alone.
There was always someone to share a joke with, or kaopei to or share the burden/load with. And that is something that I will remember, as my blisters dry up (ewww...) and my 'blue-black' bits vanish and my aches and pains disappear.
Thanks guys and gals (or bros and sisses) for a wonderful time! Would I do it again? You bet!
After 4 tough days in the outdoors, I am finally home... *contented*
They were not kidding when they said there's no place like home.
I won't post too much details abt the last 4 days until I have had some time to just recover and chill out. Lots of mosquito bites, blisters and 'blue-black' spots...
just wanna reply some tags:
[wenxin] : hi, guitar must be quite fun right? Maybe you can play for me when I see you in school next yr? (not confirmed yet la) where did you buy your guitar? Is it a folk or classical one?
[jl] wah i think you must be one of neoprints' best customers... don't you ever tire of prints? *sighs at generation gap* keep visiting the lib esp now with the bonus borrowing privileges (read more eng bks though, i think your chinese is already quite strong but you need to read more widely for eng) =)))
[christine] hiya will pop by your blog soon to say hi =)))
Supposed to be asleep now as I'm starting an Outward Bound Course today! So I'm gonna be quite hard to reach for the next few days... I heard that they can't get a decent mobile signal over there. Which actually a good break too! No more worrying about missed calls and so on.
I'm really happy to get a chance to attend the course as I know it's gonna be tough as nails. And there will be lots to talk about after the whole thing is over. Oh yea!
Wanna reply some tags today: [jl]: hey, I thought I told you to not be so yaya papaya? hope you had a rewarding trip! [Christine]: okie la, once they reveal the answers, you would have learnt something new, right? you have to listen carefully... [Wenxin]: Huh? I thought you would have been informed before sch closed for the hols? [shanice]: cousin, bu zhi zhe wu zui...anyway ignorance is bliss mah!
Will be resorting to snail blog while I'm away, apparently they don't allow lappies on Pulau Ubin and there are no power sockets! Oh man...
Hope the weather stays friendly the next few days or I'll have to become a soup chicken for sure!
Cheers to everyone who's having holidays at the moment!
Seeya when I seeya (prob with lots of new pics to flickr)
