I'm tapping this out at the QT branch of the NLB and I cannot remember if I mentioned on my blog that the DEAR programme by the NLB is on until the end of this month which means that al members can borrow up to 2 times their usual entitlement, i.e. if you are an ordinary member, you can borrow 8 books instead of 4 and Premium members can borrow 16 books! So do check it out if you haven't, it is really a good opportunity to load up on books during this period.

I just came back from CPS and it is a friendly place. I still miss my LPS students but I know that they will continue to work hard and do me proud when exam time comes around again. It is a new experience( just today alone, I think I met about 15 new colleagues!) and my new class is going to be quite interesting as well. My 'boss' says that the class is very obedient and cooperative but I will go in without any preconceptions. After all, who knows how they will respond to my style of teaching?

When I had just stepped into the library earlier, I was irritated by the noise made by these 2 boys who were just a few metres away. It was so bad that everyone in the library could hear their conversation. Something in me snapped and I stood up and walked over to ask them to lower their volume. I had to raise my voice to get their attention and they stopped. Some of the other kids who were studying nearby were also surprised by me. I think Singaporeans are so used to taking things lying down and not creating a fuss that it is quite novel to see someone taking action. I always find myself wondering where the parents are when I see children getting out of hand. Would the parents allow the kids to behave this way? Many people take the peace and quiet in the library for granted. I can only say this: we need to be pro-active when we see inconsiderate behaviour. If no one ever tells the boys that it is not acceptable to behave like hooligans in the library, they will continue to do so and make it extremely unpleasant for everyone else.

So don't take it and suffer in silence. Speak up!
